Music education is critical to a child's intellectual, social, and emotional development. Music provides chances for self-expression and self-discovery as well as creative challenges and aesthetic appreciation. Our school places a strong emphasis on providing appropriate music instruction in the classical, folk, and western genres to help students acquire emotional and practical maturity, as well as personal and intellectual development. Students at DPS develop practical maturity through music education, where they learn time management, self-assessment, the ability to tolerate criticism, and the ability to self-evaluate further. Music fosters critical thinking and helps kids become better problem solvers. Music is also a type of art, and MCPS is always on the lookout for and encouraging people who have a gift for expressing themselves via the medium of art.
